If you are a parent or carer using the virtual tour to explore the neonatal unit where your baby was cared for, please ensure you are in a safe space and feel emotionally supported. Some parents have shared that revisiting the unit, even after some time, can trigger strong emotions, so please take care of yourself.
Who's who on the Neonatal Unit
Matron Jane Lafferty Unit Manager Adrienne Patterson Feeding Coordinators/Breastfeeding Support All staff on the unit are trained to support families with breast and all other types of feeding Specialist feeding advisors are available via unit referral Bereavement Support Provided by the bereavement midwife via unit referral Counselling Service/Psychological Support The unit has a neonatal psychologist that can be accessed by all families. Play Specialists Available on request from the paediatric ward (Skylark)
What to expect on arrival
Access to the unit Entry is via a locked door, please ring bell to gain access Who to ask for on arrival The nurse in charge or the nurse caring for your baby Who will give initial update on baby's condition The nurse caring for your baby can give updates at any time
Medical staff are available during the ward rounds and upon request Ward Round times Every morning between 9.30am and 11.00am Quiet time There is no dedicated quiet time. The unit promotes a quiet and peaceful environment at all times Accommodation for parents 2 double bedrooms and 1 single bedroom are available on the unit Accommodation for siblings Siblings may stay under exceptional circumstances by discretion of the nurse in charge Meal Provision All parents can order a meal twice a day to be brought to the unit, please speak to the team for this. Snacks are also available in the kitchen for all families to help themselves to. Self Catering Facilities Kettle, fridge, microwave, crockery and cutlery available. Tea, coffee, milk, sugar and a selection of sweet and savoury snacks are also provided free of charge Mobile Phones It is important that mobile phones are switched to silent and that telephone calls are made away from the cot side, in the public areas of the hospital as this helps to reduce noise levels which babies can find stressful. Mobile phones can be used to take photographs of your baby Breast Feeding Facilities/Equipment Mobile breast pumps are available for use at the cot side A number of breast pumps are also available to loan for use at home whilst baby is on the unit Sitting Area There is a quiet room on the unit Play Area/Facilities There are toys available in the kitchenette
Children should be supervised at all times
Parent Support Group
The neonatal psychologist runs a community support group which all families are invited to attend, for more information please speak to the team during your stay.

Access to a Midwife A midwife service is available for postnatal ladies from the ward and those who have been discharged home If you need to access this service, please speak to the nurse in charge on the unit

- Basement Brasserie’ open 9.00am- 3.00pm Monday to Friday. Breakfast served between 9.00am – 10.30am and lunch served between11.30am – 2.30pm.
