If you are a parent or carer using the virtual tour to explore the neonatal unit where your baby was cared for, please ensure you are in a safe space and feel emotionally supported. Some parents have shared that revisiting the unit, even after some time, can trigger strong emotions, so please take care of yourself.
Who's who on the Neonatal Unit
Matron Vicki Baldwin Unit Manager Kirsty Adams Feeding Coordinators/Breastfeeding Support All staff on the unit are trained to support families with breast and all other types of feeding Specialist feeding advisors are available via unit referral Bereavement Support Provided by the bereavement support midwife via unit referral Counselling Service/Psychological Support A neonatal psychologist works on the unit and can be utilised by all parents Play Specialists Available on request from the Children's Hospital
What to expect on arrival
Access to the unit Entry is via a locked door, please ring bell to gain access Who to ask for on arrival The nurse in charge or the nurse caring for your baby Who will give initial update on baby's condition The nurse caring for your baby can give updates at any time Medical staff are available during the ward rounds and upon request Ward Round times Every morning starting at 9:00am and every evening between 5:00pm and 6:00pm
Quiet time There is no dedicated quiet time. The unit promotes a quiet and peaceful environment at all times Accommodation for parents 3 large on-suite bedrooms are available on the unit Accommodation for siblings Not available Meal Provision Breakfast and evening meal provided to mothers staying overnight on the unit. Parents can be provided with a voucher for 20% discount in the hospital restaurant Self Catering Facilities Fridge, microwave, hot water boiler, crockery and cutlery available. Tea, coffee, sugar and milk are also provided free of charge Mobile Phones It is important that mobile phones are switched to silent and that telephone calls are made away from the cot side, in the public areas of the hospital as this helps to reduce noise levels which babies can find stressful. Mobile phones can be used to take photographs of your baby Breast Feeding Facilities/Equipment There is a breastfeeding room on the unit Mobile breast pumps are available for use at the cot side A number of breast pumps are also available to loan for use at home whilst baby is on the unit Sitting Area There is a lounge, sitting rooms and a quiet room on the unit There is also an outdoor seating area in the courtyard Play Area/facilities There is a play area available Children should be supervised at all times Parent Support Group The unit has its own Facebook support group run by parents, you can join here or search Facebook for BURPS NeoNatal Support Group - Derby. Nearest car park There are currently changes to parking for patients and visitors who travel by car to Royal Derby Hospital including:
On-site patient and visitor car parks becoming short stay only, with a maximum stay of up to 90 minutes
Car parks 4 and 6 will be closed during construction
Car parks 2 and 3 will be dedicated for Blue Badge holders (with no maximum stay)
A free to use park and ride service for patients and visitors will operate from Kingsway Boulevard (just off the Kingsway Island opposite the Tilia housing development)

Access to a Midwife A midwife service is available for postnatal ladies from the ward and those who have been discharged home If you need to access this service, please speak to the nurse in charge on the unit
