Some parents have shared that revisiting the unit, even after some time, can trigger strong emotions, so please take care of yourself.
Who's who on the Neonatal Unit

Unit Manager Chelsea Larn Feeding Coordinators/Breastfeeding Support All staff on the unit are trained to support families with breast and all other types of feeding. Specialist feeding advisors are available via unit referral Bereavement Support Provided by the family liaison support team via unit referral Counselling Service/Psychological Support A neonatal psychologist works on the unit and can be utilised by all parents Play Specialists A play specialist is available, a copy of the timetable can be accessed in the parent lounge.
What to expect on arrival
Access to the unit Entry is via a locked door, please ring buzzer to gain access Who to ask for on arrival The nurse caring for your baby Who will give initial update on baby's condition The nurse caring for your baby can give updates at any time.
Medical staff are available during the ward rounds and upon request Ward Round times Every day between 9.30am and 11.30am except Friday which is between 10.00am - 12.00pm Quiet time Daily between 12.00pm and 2.00pm.
Accommodation for parents 3 double en-suite bedrooms are available on the unit. Extra parent bedrooms are available within the maternity hospital.
Accommodation for siblings Not available
Meal Provision All meals provided to mothers staying overnight on the unit.
Self Catering Facilities Fridge, microwave, crockery and cutlery available. Tea, coffee, milk, cordial, bread, butter, jam and marmalade are also provided free of charge.
Mobile Phones It is important that mobile phones are switched to silent and that telephone calls are made away from the cot side, in the public areas of the hospital as this helps to reduce noise levels which babies can find stressful. Mobile phones can be used to take photographs of your baby.
Breast Feeding Facilities/Equipment There is a expressing room on the unit. Mobile breast pumps are available for use at the cot side. A number of breast pumps are also available to loan for use at home whilst baby is on the unit.
Sitting Area There is a parent lounge with TV and a quiet room on the unit.
Play Area/facilities There is a play area available. Children should be supervised at all times unless the play specialist is available (timetable available in the parents sitting room).
Parent Support Group A coffee morning providing parent support is run by ADAPT. For further information please contact a member of the ADAPT team.
Nearest B&B/Hotels for other family members Castle Park Hotel, 12 Millstone Lane, Leicester, LE1 5JN. Or Holiday Inn, Filbert Way, Rawdykes Road, Leicester, LE2 7FL, both approximately a 5 minute drive from the hospital.
Visiting Hours Open access for siblings
