If you are a parent or carer using the virtual tour to explore the neonatal unit where your baby was cared for, please ensure you are in a safe space and feel emotionally supported. Some parents have shared that revisiting the unit, even after some time, can trigger strong emotions, so please take care of yourself.

Feeding Coordinators/Breastfeeding Support
All staff on the unit are trained to support families with breast and all other types of feeding
Specialist feeding advisors are available via unit referral
Bereavement Support
Provided by the neonatal bereavement nurse and bereavement support midwife via unit referral
Counselling Service/Psychological Support
A neonatal psychologist works on the unit and can be utilised by all parents

What to expect on arrival
Access to the unit
Entry is via a locked door, please ring buzzer to gain access
Who to ask for on arrival
The sister in charge or the nurse caring for your baby
Who will give initial update on baby's condition
The nurse caring for your baby can give updates at any time.
Medical staff are available during the ward rounds and upon request
Ward Round times
Every day between 11.00am and 1.00pm
Quiet time
Daily between 1.30pm and 2.30pm
Accommodation for parents
6 rooms are available in the Hospital Hotel on top floor of Maternity Building.
6 on-suite transitional care bedrooms are available on the unit
Accommodation for siblings
Cots and small beds can be made available for siblings under 5. Please speak to a member of staff on the unit to arrange
Meal Provision
All parents get meal vouchers
Self Catering Facilities
Hob, microwave, fridge freezer, crockery and cutlery available in the Transitional Care area. Bread and butter are also provided free of charge
Mobile Phones
It is important that mobile phones are switched to silent and that telephone calls are made away from the cot side, in the public areas of the hospital as this helps to reduce noise levels which babies can find stressful. Mobile phones can be used to take photographs of your baby
Breast Feeding Facilities/Equipment
There is an expressing room on the unit.
Mobile breast pumps are available for use at the cot side.
A number of breast pumps are also available to loan for use at home whilst baby is on the unit
Sitting Area
There are a couple of sitting rooms with TV, a garden room and a quiet room on the unit.
There is also an outdoor seating area in the courtyard
Play Area/facilities
There is a toy box located in the parent sitting room. Children should be supervised at all times
Parent Support Group
Our parent support group is called Nottingham Neonatal Family Group, and is held on the second Wednesday of every month at Trent Vineyard.

Please note the group is only open to parents of preterm/term babies who are or have been on the Neonatal Unit at either Nottingham City & QMC Campus
