What are the RENS forms and why are we using them?

RENS stands for Recognising Excellence in Neonatal Services. It is an online form that we would like all colleagues throughout the East Midlands Neonatal Network to use to highlight the excellent practice and projects being carried out in the Network. We would like to support all neonatal services to celebrate their achievements and excellence by fostering a culture of shared learning opportunities and building resilience to boost morale within our workforce.

Good luck to all of our colleagues.

🌼 A Daisy Award for Becs 🌼

Becs is a Junior Sister on the Local Neonatal Unit at Northampton. Becs was recently awarded a Daisy Award following a nomination from a parent for the care that she and her baby received on the unit.

You can read Becs nomination story below and we think that you will agree that she was a very worthy winner.

"Our daughter was born 13 weeks early. This was so very scary and upsetting for us both as first time parents. Our daughter has been a patient on Gosset ward for over 9 weeks. Becs was one of the first nurses we met. The first few visits to the ward we found very scary and we were anxious about what news was waiting for us about our girl. But Becs explained everything in such detail, in a way we could understand. I had never changed a nappy before and my first time doing this was for my tiny daughter. Becs helped me, said I did a good job and demonstrated in other ways I could bond with my daughter.

Becs is always smiling and having been on Gosset every day for 9 weeks I can see how hard she works and never cuts corners. My hands during the first few weeks of being on Gosset with my daughter got incredibly dry, sore and cracked from all the sanitizer. Becs surprised me one day and had bought me some hand cream saying she knows how it must be hard for me too look after myself right now. That is how amazing and thoughtful Becs is.

Becs also provided my daughter with a comforter and me with milestone cards, a diary and a kit to take ink prints of my daughters hands and feet. I have written about Becs in my daughters diary so she can know how amazing she was to me and is as a nurse.

Becs is a true asset to Gosset ward. I always felt so calm and reassured when Becs was looking after my little girl. We know she would be in safe hands and that Becs would always be honest with us. Becs truly deserves an award. She works so hard and is absolutely amazing. Thank you Becs, always."

Congratulations Becs!

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton received 722 nominations for their 2022 Making A Difference Awards and one of those nominations was for our Neonatal colleagues at Burton.  The nomination was acknowledged by the Chief Executive, Stephen Posey, who stated that it was a huge honour and shows that the teams compassionate approach was recognised and valued by others. He went on the say that the team should take a moment and feel proud of the excellent contribution they all make to the organisation. As part of the nomination a mother who had her baby on the unit said:

“I cannot put into words the gratitude I have for you all (the NNU team). The impeccable care both me and my baby received means the world to me. I will never forget the guiding lights you all were in the most petrifying week of my life.”

Congratulations on this recognition Team Burton, a fantastic achievement!
